Former Secretary to the Oyo State Government during the tenure of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Alhaji (Chief) Waheed Akin Olajide, FCA, has passed away at the age of 76.

Olajide, a distinguished alumnus and founding member of the Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys Association, reportedly died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. His burial is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Born on June 21, 1950, Olajide attended Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan, from 1966 to 1969, where he graduated with Grade One honors. He subsequently enrolled at the then University of Ife, Ile-Ife, earning a Second Class Upper degree in Chemistry.

He later pursued Accounting at the University of Lagos, Akoka, became a Chartered Accountant, and obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ibadan, where he distinguished himself as the overall best student in his class in 1991.

The late Olajide was an educationist, publisher, technocrat, politician, Ibadan chief, religious leader, and philanthropist.

Olajide established Sankore College, Ibadan, which he voluntarily transferred to the Oyo State Government following his 70th birthday.

He served as the Managing Director of University Press Plc and held the position of National President of the Muslim Association of Nigeria. Additionally, he was a former National Secretary and founding member of the Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys Association.
