Oyo State workers protest, barricade entrances to secretariat

Oyo state workers have staged a protest.

According to reports, the workers, under the agies of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC, barricaded all entrances into the government secretariat, Agodi Ibadan.

The development was as a result of the failure of Governor Seyi Makinde to accede to their demands.

The demands which include, remittance of deductions, release of promotion letter with financial implications, review of pensions among others.

The workers whose actions created traffic jam along the Secretariat road were chanting solidarity songs to attractions the attention of passers-bye.

Speaking with newsmen, the NLC chairman in Oyo State, Kayode Martin, demanded that “The only solution to the protest was the physical meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde and not by proxy.”

He accused the governor of insensitivity to workers plights by failing to meet them.

Martin further explained that “All their correspondences to the governor were not honoured, saying that it was unhealthy for industrial relations.

Corroborating his counterpart, the TUC chairman in Oyo State, Bosun Olabiyi pointed out that Governor Makinde has failed the workers in the state by not being responsible and responsive.

He said, “All avenues were employed to meet the governor but proved abortive, hence the need to embark on the protest to press home their demands.”
