Bayern Munich have won the Bundesliga title for the record 11th time in a row, with a 90th-minute goal from Jamal Musiala sealing a 2-1 win at Cologne after Borussia Dortmund were held 2-2 at home by Mainz.

With Bayern needing a win to surpass Dortmund, the England-raised Germany Musiala slammed home the crucial goal in the 89th minutes, ensuring the Bavarians retained the title for another season.

Dortmund knew a win would secure the title, but they fell behind 2-0 after just 25 minutes, with striker Sebastien Haller also missing a penalty.

The fighting spirit of Dortmund got them two second half goals to draw the game but it was not enough, as Bayern snatched the title on goal difference.

Thomas Muller and injured goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who missed the second part of the season after fracturing his leg on a skiing vacation, lifted the trophy together in a historic outing.

“It is an unbelievable moment – crazy, electric. I hoped it would happen but did not think it would,” said Muller.

“We conceded an equaliser just as we have done the entire season and then Musiala drills in the winner.

“People interested in football have the feeling that we do not deserve this and I understand that because of the second half of the season being so chaotic for us.”

In other matches, Bochum’s 3-0 win over Leverkusen assures that they will participate in the Bundesliga for another season, moving them from second last to 14th.

Augsburg, despite losing 2-0 to Borussia Moenchengladbach, will remain in the Bundesliga after finishing 15th.

Hertha Berlin won 2-1 away at Wolfsburg, denying the hosts the opportunity to leapfrog Leverkusen into Europe.
