Tinubu commences official duties, meets top officials at Aso Rock Presidential Villa
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commenced his official duties as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at his office at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
A ceremonial military salute was given to the president at the diplomatic gate as his convoy approached the front arcade of the Villa office at around 2:30 p.m.
Mr Tinubu was received by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who had previously assumed responsibility, and House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.
The newly sworn-in Nigerian leader was also received by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, the Group Managing Director of the NNPCL, Mele Kyari, and Executive Secretary of Nigeria Midstream and Downstream petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, among other top officials.
Mr Tinubu immediately proceeded into a closed door meeting with his officials.
The former Lagos State governor who was on Monday, May 29, 2023, sworn-in as president to replace Muhammadu Buhari hit the ground running by announcing the removal of the controversial subsidy on the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly called petrol by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
He promised to lead Nigeria with “compassion and amity towards all.”
“In economy, we’ll target not less than 6 per cent growth in GDP growth. We’ll do this through budgetary reforms. We’ll use a full range of domestic manufacturing and lessen importation,” Tinubu said in his inaugural address at Eagle Square, Abuja.
He further pledged to boost foreign direct investment by reviewing all complaints about multiple taxations.
“To our foreign investors, our government will review all complaints about multiple taxations. All businesses will be allowed to repatriate hard-earned profits back home,” Tinubu added.
