The Chancellor of the University of Ibadan and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has condoled with the management of the institution over the killing of Professor Opeyemi Ajewole.
The Sultan also expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family in a statement issued by the secretary to the Sultanate Council, Sai’du Maccido, on Thursday June 8, 2023.
According to the statement, the Sultan condemned the killing and urged the federal government and the Nigeria police to fish out the killers.
“We learnt about the brutal killing of one of our professors at the University of Ibadan. As Chancellor of the university, I condemn the killing while also condoling the family of the late professor and the university community,” the statement read.
It added, “We express our sadness for losing such an ingenious don and the originality that he had been able to contribute to the quality of education and knowledge service delivery at the university during his lifetime.”
The royal father appealed to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the senseless murder of the university don and bring the criminals to book for the gruesome crime.
