Breaking: Unknown gunmen kill UI professor

Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed a professor at the University of Ibadan, Prof Opeyemi Ajewole.

According to a report, Professor Opeyemi Ajewole of University of Ibadan was killed by suspected “hire killer” at his residence in Ibadan.

Confirming the incident to i-News Nigeria correspondent, a lecturer in the institution said Ajewole was killed by unknown gunmen while returning home.

“It is true. He was killed last night while returning home. They shot him and took his car. He was my friend. I just confirmed from a member of his Faculty now,” the source said.

Until his death, Opeyemi Ajewole was a Professor of Social and Environmental Forestry at the University of Ibadan.

Ajewole, until his death, was a lecturer in the Department of Forest Resources Management of the university.

He was born on 6 March 1962.

Principal Assistant Registrar, Public Communications, at the university, Joke Akinpelu, when contacted, also confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Tuesday.

Akinpelu, who did not give further information, said, “Yes, it is true. But we are not sure if it is armed robbers or hired assassins.

“He was killed yesterday. The incident happened yesterday.”
