Arsenal’s captain, Martin Odegaard has been named the club’s 2022–23 Player of the Year after his brilliant command in the midfield helped the gunners to finish second on the Premier League table.

The former Real Madrid midfielder came out first in the poll, after he received 55 per cent of all submissions from the club’s supporters to win the illustrious award for the first time in Arsenal’s jersey.

Bukayo Saka came second, while Gabriel Martinelli finished in third spot.

The captain scored 15 times in the Premier League to match Cesc Fabregas’s 2009/2010 record.

He was also nominated for the division’s Player and Young Player of the Year honors, as well as being selected the Premier League Player of the Month for November/December.

The Norwegian star player, who is expected to earn a new Arsenal contract, vows to give the 2023/2024 season a serious chase.

“Last season we had a difficult end when we dropped out of the Champions League but we used that anger and came back stronger this year, and we need to do the same thing again,” Odegaard was quoted saying by Football.London.

“With the position we’ve been in all season, we are not happy with second place even though it’s a good achievement and probably everyone would have taken it before the season – we wanted to win it when we got into that position.

“It is a good sign that we are disappointed, and I think we should be. We could have won the league, so let’s use this disappointment in a good way, learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen the same next season.” He said.
