Nketiah’s career under shadow as Arsenal set to add Chelsea star forward
The potential arrival of Kai Havertz is causing concern for Arsenal’s star forward, Eddie Nketiah, SunSport reveals
Last season, the 24-year-old played a significant part for the Gunners, filling in for the injured Gabriel Jesus who sustained a long time injury after he featured for Brazil in the early stage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The young striker found the back of the net nine times and had three assists to his credit in the recently concluded football season.
However, the arrival of the German striker from their London rivals, Chelsea, means Nketiah will be pushed lower down the pecking order at the Emirates.
As a result, a number of Premier League clubs, including West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Fulham, have been put on “red alert.”
A source told the SunSport: “Eddie’s at a key stage in his career. He feels he’s now proved he can score goals at the highest level and the next step is to be playing week in week out.
“But the fact the club has decided to invest so heavily in another striker has left Eddie wondering if he really has a future at the club.
“There would certainly be no shortage of takers if he were to push for a move. Crystal Palace and West Ham are both near the front of the queue.
“Both clubs lack a 20-goal-a-season man which Nketiah believes he can be in the Premier League.”
The source noted that Arsenal manager, “Mikel Arteta rates Eddie very highly.
“Now they are in the Champions League he thinks the club needs at least three top strikers which is why he was so keen to bring in Kai Havertz, a player with proven Premier League and European experience.
“Arteta may also play with two up front more often next season so he wants to have more options at his disposal.”
Arsenal will begin their 2023/24 Premier League season at home to Nottingham Forest on August 12.
The North London club will then face two London derbies against Crystal Palace and Fulham before hosting Manchester United in their first ‘Big Six’ match of the season in early September.
