Eid-el-Kabir : IGP tightens security, NSCDC deploys 40,000 personnel
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has tightened security across the country, assuring the public of sustained efforts in tackling crimes, especially during the Eid celebration by the Muslims.
Egbetokun gave the assurance, while charging Commissioners of Police (CPs) in all states and in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) to configure security architecture for robust policing ahead of Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
He particularly directed zonal AIGs and CPs to deploy human and other operational assets for confidence building and crime-prevention patrols on major highways, residential and industrial areas, vulnerable points and places of worship.
He added that the deployment should be devoid of harassment and extortion.
Police spokesman, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement, “The IGP equally warned that personnel deployed must be disciplined, professional, respect fundamental rights of citizens and fulfill responsibilities with decorum and alertness.
“The IGP, while congratulating Muslim faithful, restated that the police would harness all assets, including relevant groups, associations, sectors, and synergise with other security agencies to boost service delivery and stabilise security within the nation.”
The IGP wished all Muslims a happy and peaceful Sallah.
Meanwhile, the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Audi, has deployed 40,000 personnel ahead of the festivity.
This was contained in a statement signed by NSCDC spokesperson, Olusola Odumosu, yesterday.
Audi charged all heads of formation to leave no stones unturned in ensuring effective security coverage of the country.
He urged: “You must be on top of your game. Be very vigilant and highly sensitive to your environment because we are not going to take chances.”
Be proactive and make sure you engage intelligent-driven strategies. This will help to get credible information about intended plans of criminal elements, so we can crush them before they strike.”
The helmsman ordered deployment to every nook and cranny of the country and manning of strategic locations, such as places of worship, recreation centres, markets, shopping malls, motor parks, critical infrastructures and national assets.
He warned all zonal commanders to effectively coordinate formations under them, adding: “All special forces of the corps must be fully engaged during the Sallah celebration to guarantee safety of the life of our people. I will hold zonal commanders and state commandants accountable for any breach.”
