Crisis rocking Nasarawa House of Assembly resolved as faction speaker steps down

All is now settled in the leadership crisis in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly which has lingered on for over six weeks has been resolved.

This followed the stepping down of one of the factional speakers, Mr Daniel Ogazi during a Press briefing in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital.

A new leadership of the 7th house of assembly has also emerged .

Mr Daniel Ogazi, the factional speaker of one of the parties, stated that the decision to step down was made to allow for unity, peace, and progress in the state.

Meanwhile, on the floor of the state house of assembly, the members elect chose Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe of the APC as Speaker of the 7th assembly, with Mr Abel Bala of the PDP elected as Deputy Speaker.

While administering the oath of office and allegiance to the members, Speaker Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe urged them to put the turmoil behind them and focus on pushing the state ahead.

The election and inauguration of the seventh assembly took place in a pleasant atmosphere, with all 24 members present.

Security agencies have also left the State House of Assembly building, while the police Armoured Personnel Carrier stationed at the main gate has been decommissioned.

Normalcy is gradually returning to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, which was entirely shut by security agents following the emergence of two speakers during the seventh assembly’s inauguration on June 6, 2023, in separate places.
