A four-storey building collapsed in Cameroon’s commercial city of Douala on Sunday, killing at least 12 people and wounding many more.
The structure collapsed about midnight in the city’s eastern Ange Raphael neighborhood.
The regional governor confirmed that Twelve people died and the others are in hospital for medical attention.
The official assured that the situation was under control and rescue teams were making sure no one remained under the rubble.
It is unknown how many people were inside the four-story structure when caved-in into another residential block early Sunday morning.
However, teams from Cameroon’s fire brigade, the Red Cross and other rescue services are still working at the scene.
Residents living in the neighborhood where the incident took place expressed shock after the incident.
Building collapses are common in Cameroon due to natural disasters such as landslides and in some cases because of poor construction.
In 2016, a weak structure in Douala that violated building codes collapsed, killing five people.
