FRSC, NCS begin integration of vehicle database to enhance security
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have disclosed a plan to immediately commence integration of national vehicle information database to enhance national security and curb revenue loss.
The acting Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, announced this when he paid a visit to the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dauda Ali Biu, at the national headquarters Abuja.
Biu explained that “working together
would consolidate on the existing vehicle information in the national vehicle identification scheme database domiciled with the FRSC and vehicle database of the NCS to curb vehicle smuggling, improve revenue generation and enhance national security.”
The corps marshal, while responding to the comptroller general, applauded the initiative and maintained that “data sharing would not only strengthen the bond between the two agencies but also positively impact the fight against smuggling of vehicles.”
The FRSC corps marshal stressed that the collaboration will also entrench ease of doing business as it will make tracking of vehicles without customs duty certificate very easy for the Corps at the point of registration.
He beckoned on the customs boss to make enforcement of restriction of importation of vehicles whose ages are at the point of importation, above the specified legal age limit one of his key priorities.
While decrying the dangers of using fairly used tyres, Dauda Biu also sought the assistance on enforcement of the ban on the importation of expired tyres into the country.
