Fuel subsidy: Kwara Poly offers free rides to staff

The management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has approved free rides for its members of staff as part of efforts to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

The management of the higher institution, in a statement, said the bus palliative will help to reduce the cost of transportation for the staff, especially those who are residing far away from the campus.

The intervention comes after the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, approved the extension of free rides to students and workers of the state’s higher institutions, among numerous other multi-sectoral initiatives to offset the effect of the already suspended subsidy on petrol.

Recall that Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq recently approved the payment of N10,000 monthly stipend to all public sector workers to cope with the economic shocks created by the subsidy.

Kwara Poly says its bus palliative will be effective from August 1.

“This is to inform the entire staff of the Polytechnic that the Management at its meeting held on Monday 24th July 2023 approved palliative measures to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on its staff,” a statement signed by the PAR, NASED, Mrs O.A Animashaun read.

“This is by making available the use of staff buses to transport staff from Post Office and Oja-Oba to and from everyday at no cost. Take-off time shall be 7:30am and closing at 4:00pm.

“In view of this, interested staff are to enter the bus with their ID card. The effective date is 1st August, 2023,” the statement added.
