Legal Twist: Ex-CBN Governor Emefiele Detained In Kuje Prison Amidst Bail Proceedings

Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has mandated the detention of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, in Kuje prison until his bail request is resolved, with a ruling scheduled for November 22.

Emefiele will remain incarcerated until the court reaches a decision on his bail application. His lead counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mathew Burkaa, presented the bail application, while Rotimi Oyedepo vehemently opposed it on behalf of the Federal Government.

Following arguments from both sides, Justice Muazu explained that a prompt bench ruling was unfeasible due to the extensive legal references cited.

He expressed the need for time to review the authorities and examine the exhibits provided by Emefiele in support of his bail plea.

As of the latest update, officials from the Kuje prison have been notified to arrange transportation for Emefiele to the prison facility.
