Breaking: Police Shed Light On Governorship Candidate’s Detention
The command clarified that the arrest was unrelated to any electoral misconduct but was based on the breach of the order restricting movement on election day.
Reports indicate that Braimoh and his aides were apprehended in the Kabba Bunu Local Government Area for allegedly possessing campaign materials in his vehicle.
The spokesperson for the state Police Command, William Aya, provided further clarification to Punch, emphasizing that Braimoh’s arrest was not connected to the speculated offense reported by some media outlets.
Aya explained that the arrest resulted from Braimoh violating an existing order prohibiting security personnel from accompanying VIPs during the ongoing election.
Aya stated, “It was a violation of the restriction of movement. You know there was an order that no security personnel should escort any VIP on the day of the election, and there was a restriction on movement.
He violated the restriction of movement because they said the police and any security agencies attached to them should not move with them on that day. That was the order, and it was not as if there was any electoral offence.”
