Tragedy Strikes As 12 Lives Lost In Plateau Village Gun Attack
Gunmen have perpetrated a tragic incident in Tilengpat community, located in the Pushit area of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The attack occurred late on Thursday, April 18, 2024, resulting in the loss of twelve lives. The grim event follows closely on the heels of another violent act where suspected Fulani militias claimed the lives of at least ten individuals in Mandung-Mushu and Kopnanle villages within the Bokkos and Mangu local government areas of the state.
Markus Argue, the Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area, confirmed the recent onslaught, expressing bewilderment at the senseless targeting of innocent women and children within their homes. Presently, the exact count of casualties remains undetermined as authorities continue to assess the situation. A community leader identified as John disclosed that twelve bodies have been recovered from the scene of the attack and surrounding areas.
The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of their families. Law enforcement agencies have launched investigations to uncover the motives behind these atrocious acts and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In response to the tragedy, Senator Diket Plang, representing Plateau Central, visited Tilengpat to offer support and solidarity to the affected community. During his visit, Sen. Plang engaged with local leaders, residents, and security officials to evaluate the situation comprehensively. Expressing grave concern over the escalating violence, he pledged to collaborate closely with relevant authorities to ensure the safety and security of the people in Plateau Central.
