Cabinet Reshuffle: APC Accuses Makinde Of Favoritism

In a recent development, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State authorized a minor cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, as reported by INTEGRITY NEWS through a statement obtained from his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

The rearrangement involved Ademola Ojo, previously overseeing Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives, who has now transitioned to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters. In his place, Segun Olayiwola moves to the Ministry of Establishment and Training, with Adeniyi Adebisi assuming responsibility for Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives.

Reacting to these changes, the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state voiced strong criticism against Governor Makinde. The APC’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, expressed concerns beyond the reshuffle itself, emphasizing that Governor Makinde’s governance style has hindered effective administration. According to Sadare, Makinde’s leadership lacks inclusivity and democratic principles, alleging that commissioners under his administration remain largely unknown and sidelined in decision-making processes.

“The issue with Governor Seyi Makinde’s PDP administration extends beyond cabinet appointments to his overall leadership approach,” Sadare remarked. “Without a collaborative blueprint and genuine commitment to implementation, frequent cabinet reshuffles serve little purpose.”

Sadare further highlighted operational constraints faced by commissioners, noting, “Commissioners appear to function more as figureheads under stringent operational conditions, including the inability to address the media independently.”

The APC’s criticism underscores ongoing political tensions in Oyo State, suggesting deeper systemic challenges within the state administration.
