ISI-UI Hijab Victory: Stop Creating Non-existing Unrest, SAN Warns ISI Principal

A senior counsel for the applicants in case involving Muslim Parents and the International School of the University of Ibadan, Barrister Musibau Adetunbi (SAN) has warned the Principal of the School, Mr. Yinka Akintunde against creating a non-existing unrest in the school in a bid to establish a case for the stay of execution of the reliefs granted by Justice M. Ishola of the Oyo State High Court permitting female Muslims students of the school to use the Hijab over their school uniform.

Reacting to a section on page 6 of the 10-page affidavit deposed to by Mr. Akintunde, Mr. Adetunbi noted that the words used in the section were inflammatory and non-representative of the reality on ground at the school.

He noted that it is because there was peace at ISI in spite of the use of the Hijab that the Principal could leave his office and come to the court that morning. He also noted that the school was having its examination as at the time the court was sitting and that as someone who goes to ISI everyday to drop off his children, he has not seen any justification for the Principal’s position.

He therefore prayed that the Judge should advise the Principal and his team not to self-create an unrest to justify his claims in the affidavit.

Justice Ishola, in his reaction called on both parties to maintain peace and leave the court to do its job. He thereafter adjourn the case till November 12, 2024.

Recall that INTEGRITY NEWS report that the Principal of the school together  with the University of Ibadan Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic filed a case against the judgment of Oyo State High Court granting female Muslims the right to wear hijab over their school uniform in International School Ibadan.
