The Political Awareness Group, PAG, a socio-political organization, has condoled the parents and guardians of children who lost their lives on Wednesday, 18th December 2024,during a Christmas funfair organized by WINGS, an evangelical outreach led by Queen (Evangelist) Naomi Silekunola, in collaboration with a private radio station in Ibadan.
The group in a statement by the Chairman, Dr Lukmon Fasasi and the Secretary, Mr Adesola Mufutau Bamidele described the incident as heartbreaking.
According to the statement, though the cause of the stampede has not yet been established, but it was confirmed that thirty-two children—who represented the future of the state and the country—lost their lives in the chaos.
The group noted that It is impossible not to be moved to tears as the lifeless bodies of the innocent children were laid on the floor of a public hospital in Ibadan City before being placed in the morgue.
“This tragedy represents a double loss for the parents of these children, who had only attended the event to receive the promised gifts, only to instead lose their precious ones to the cold hands of death”
The Political Awareness Group urged the Oyo state government to investigate the immediate and underlying causes of the stampede and punish those responsible for the poor organization of the event, regardless of their status.
The group prayed to Allaah to comfort the families of children who lost their lives during the stampede.
