PAG Consoles Nigerian Muslims On Demise Of Buhari And Awujale
The Political Awareness Group (PAG) has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and the entire nation on the passing of two distinguished sons of the land — Former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in a London hospital at the age of 82, and Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba, Agbotewole 1, the Awujale of Ijebuland, who reigned for 65 years before passing at the age of 91.
According to a statement by the PAG Chairman, Dr Lukman Tunde Fasasi and the General Secretary, Mr Adesola Miftaudeen Bamidele, President Buhari served Nigeria with discipline, integrity, and deep commitment to national unity and was often referred to as ‘ Mr. Integrity’ and Mai Gaskiya, due to his transparency and legacy of service, devotion to justice, and accountability. His life story will continue to inspire generations.
The statement also indicates that Oba Sikiru Adetona was not only a royal father but also a reformer and unifier. He courageously advocated for a distinction between kingship and religion, successfully arguing that traditional rulers should be buried according to their faith. His tireless work for peace, unity, and the development of Ijebuland was remarkable. His dedication to the welfare of his people remains unparalleled.
The Association extends its condolences to the Emir of Daura, Alh. Faruk Umar Faruk, the Governors of Katsina and Kaduna States, Umar Dikko and Uba Sanni, respectively, and the people of Daura.
It also sent the condolences to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the entire people of Ogun State, the people of Ijebuland, particularly the Anikinaiya Ruling House of Imupa, Ijebu-Ode.
PAG sympathizes with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and all the good people of Nigeria.
It notes that the Nigerian Muslim community has lost great men whose absence will be felt for generations.
“In offering our sincere condolences, we are reminded of Allah’s words:
*Every soul shall taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection…”
— *Surah Al-Imran (3:185)* These deaths remind us of the *transience of life* and the importance of living purposefully in submission to Allah. Both leaders left behind legacies of service, leadership, and values anchored in faith and community service.
According to the statement, Oba Adetona’s insistence on traditional rulers being buried according to their religious beliefs teaches the importance of upholding the truth, even within deeply rooted cultural systems.
“President Buhari’s austere lifestyle highlights the virtue of simplicity and accountability in leadership”
The Association urges all Muslims and Nigerians, to see the departures of the great leaders to reflect on fulfilling purpose of creation, creating legacies, and working for unity, justice, and development, like these leaders did in their lifetimes.
“Let us honour them by striving to uphold the values of truth, integrity, justice, humility, and service to humanity”
” Let us also pray for Nigeria—that our current and future leaders draw inspiration from the lives of those who came before them in service and sacrifice”
