Ife Attack: MULAN launches legal battle against Oro worshippers, assures Muslim Ummah of justice

The Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN), Osun State Chapter, has launched a legal battle against the Oro worshippers in Ile Ife.

This was disclosed by its Chairman, Qaasim Odedeji, on Sunday April 2, 2023.

According to a report, an imam and some Muslims were attacked by Oro worshippers inside a mosque at Ilare, Ile Ife.

“We are watching the action of the security agency and all those that are concerned including the state government. I learn up till now, no arrest has been made and there are some attempts to sweep the case under the carpet,” Odedeji said.

He added, “Let those who know should know that Muslims will not sit by when the right of other Muslims to life, dignity and freedom of worship is being trampled upon.

“I want to call on the commissioner of police of Osun State to, as a matter of serious urgency, swing into action and make necessary arrest and investigation of the culprits.

“It must be understood that the attack is not about the victims alone but all Muslims in the state and beyond and we will leave no stone unturned to make sure that the perpetrator of the heinous crime faces the music.”

Meanwhile, Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has called for peace and orderliness in the ancient city of Ile-Ife and its environs, following a fracas between traditional worshippers and Muslims which left many injured.

Mr Adeyeye gave the charge on Friday through his deputy, Obalufe of Ifeland, Idowu Adediwura.

He said as the royal father of Christians, Muslims and traditionalists and as a leader who championed peaceful coexistence globally, there was no reason why his home should be in turmoil.

He said that as a direct descendant of Oduduwa, the progenitor of Yoruba race who also preached peaceful coexistence, he believed there was no reason why people of different faiths should not live peacefully in tolerance.
