Why it may be difficult for a Christian president to emerge soon- Asari Dokubo
Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta militant, has made suggestions as to why it would be challenging for a Christian to become president of Nigeria soon.
He said that politicians who have promoted religious propaganda more in everything are Christians thereby reducing the chances of the adherents of the faith to produce Nigeria’s president in the near future.
Dokubo noted in a Facebook live video that Bola Tinubu, the incoming president, cannot make any changes.
“Today, it will be very difficult for a Christian to become president of Nigeria because Tinubu cannot change anything – like what he did in Lagos.
“Muslim-Muslim ticket has come to stand. There is nothing you can do.
“You don’t start a war that you cannot finish.
“The people that have promoted religion in everything in Nigeria are Christians,” he said.
The 2023 presidential election was one of the keenly contested in Nigeria. The poll was largely contested along ethno-religion lines with the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket coming under heavy criticism.
President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress defeated 17 other candidates who took part in the election.
He scored a total of 8,794,726 votes, the highest of all the candidates, to emerge victorious at the expense of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of People’s Democratic Party and Labour Party respectively.
Mr Tinubu won the election in Rivers, Borno, Jigawa, Zamfara, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo and Ogun states.
