Breaking One game from immortality: Man City out-powers Man Utd in FA final to maintain treble dreams

Manchester City are one victory away from of completing their much desired treble as they beat Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

The Cityzens out-powered the Red Devils, thanks to Ilkay Gundogan’s two decisive goals against their arch-rival.

The City’s captain made history as he scored the fastest goal in FA Cup final history, after 12 seconds of play.

Manchester could only score a goal to show for their presence in the game when skipper Bruno Fernandes fired home a 33rd-minute penalty.

The goal was not enough to stop a determined Pep Guardiola side having snatched the league trophy from Arsenal.

Speaking after the match, the captain of the club who is also man-of-the-match – Ilkay Gundogan, said: “We have a chance to do something special and win the Treble and we do not want to let this opportunity pass us by,” he said.

“I can promise our fans we will do everything we can to win in Istanbul.”

“Two down. One to go. Inter Milan next.”

‘One game from immortality’

Commenting on the team’s performance, Newcastle legend, Alan Shearer, said on BBC One that Manchester City is just a game from immortality. He said: “It’s one game from immortality for these Manchester City boys. The fans of Manchester City football club will remember them for years to come. They are on the verge of an incredible achievement.”

The Premier League champions will trade tackles with the Italian giant, Inter Milan, in next Saturday’s Champions League final. The victory would see them match ManchesterUnited’s triple triumph in the 1998-1999 season.
