They’ve done it! West Ham hammers Fiorentina to win Europa Conference League

West Ham United produced a scintillating performance to end their 43-year wait for a major trophy as the English side beat Fiorentina to win the Europa Conference League in Prague.

Jarrod Bowen scored the winner in the 90th minute to secure the Hammers’ much anticipated glory.

Declan Rice, the West Ham player of the year, led his team out on his 245th game in a West Ham shirt.

On the way to Prague, the 24-year-old has appeared eleven times, including a magnificent solitary goal in the quarter-final second-leg win over KAA Gent at London Stadium.

He is only the third player, after Bobby Moore and Billy Bonds, to lead the Hammers in a major European final, and only the second player, after fellow England international Moore, to win a major European trophy.

Earlier in the game, Giacomo Bonaventura’s quickfire strike cancelled out Said Benrahma’s 67th-minute penalty, but David Moyes’ team showed great endurance, withstanding strong pressure during the game and finally scoring the decisive goal in the 90th minute.

The victory ends a four-decade drought for significant silverware and means they have won a European trophy for the second time in their history, following their UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup triumph in 1965.

It also secures West Ham’s participation in the Europa League for next season.
