Taiwo Awoniyi visits Emir of Ilorin, seeks royal blessings

Super Eagles of Nigeria and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu Gambari, at his royal palace in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The former Union Berlin striker arrived at the palace with his friends and allies on Thursday June 8, 2023, to pay homage to the first-class monarch.

The Emir prayed vehemently for the footballer, who hails from Kwara State, to succeed in his chosen career.

Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu Gambari prayed for other Nigerian players, including Arsenal’s star forward, Bukayo Saka, who is said to be currently on vacation in Oro, the residence of his grandparents in Irepodun Local Government Area, Kwara State.

The Arsenal player is in Nigeria after the end of the Premier League season as he continues to identify with his origin.

This is not the first time that Awoniyi will be visiting the Emir. In November, 2022, the Nottingham Forest player presented his club jersey to the Emir of Ilorin while the royal father was on vacation in London, United Kingdom.

The Emir has passion for football and he has indicated this on several occasions. He took active participation in the administration of the round leather game as he was once elected as Vice President of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA).

Apart from that, it was on record that he led the Nigerian delegation to the Seoul Olympics in 1988.
