Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has authorised the payment of all pending promotion arrears to civil servants in the state with effect from August 2023.
The governor stated that “the approval was in fulfilment of his electioneering promise to pay all outstanding promotion arrears of civil servants.”
The governor’s approval was communicated through a circular letter, and signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, in Asaba, on Wednesday July 5, 2023.
Mr. Bayoko revealed that “the phased payment would commence with the civil servants in the ministries, followed by those in the Judiciary, parastatals and the Hospitals Management Board in September, 2023.”
He hinted that the promotion arrears for staff in tertiary institutions within the state and the Post Primary Education Board would be disbursed in October and November 2023.
Mr. Bayoko emphasised that the payment approval served as a testament to the governor’s unwavering dedication to the growth and productivity of the civil service in the state, just as he urged civil servants to continue to work and exhibit commitment in the discharge of their duties.
The Delta State Head of Service, Mr Bayoko stressed the importance of prompt processing of subsequent updates for eligible officers within three months of receiving relevant letters of promotions, urging ministries, departments and agencies to prioritise promotion issues.
