Confusion grips ruling APC as National Chairman, Senator Adamu, resigns

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been thrown into confusion after it was widely reported that Senator Abdullahi Adamu has resigned as the party’s national chairman.

According to reports, Adamu announced his resignation in response to rising pressure from party leaders.

Daily Trust reported that Adamu, who emerged as the national chairman at the party’s national convention held in March 2022, has sent his resignation letter to the Presidential Villa, Abuja ahead of the return of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya.

The newspaper indicated that the former governor of Nasarawa State, sent the resignation letter to the Chief of Staff of the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, around 4pm on Sunday.

The party earlier scheduled meetings on July 10 and 11 to address important issues affecting it as well as the crisis inside the National Working Committee (NWC).

However, the sessions were later rescheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday.

According to a founding member of the party, Adamu quit after learning that two important figures close to the president had organized a campaign against him before the meetings, Daily Trust reported.

When contacted, Adamu told the paper that he will not speak on the matter until President Tinubu returns from the AU’s meeting.

“I won’t talk about the issue because the president is away,” Adamu who was the preferred candidate of former President Muhammadu Buhari for the chairmanship seat, said.
