Federal High Court orders DSS to grant Nnamdi Kanu medical access

A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a significant ruling concerning the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The court has mandated the Department of State Service (DSS) to permit Kanu to consult with a medical professional of his choice.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Binta Nyako, who emphasised the urgency of the situation due to Kanu’s reported deteriorating health, particularly the need for an immediate ear surgery.

Justice Nyako also directed that “all of Kanu’s medical records must be made available to him for proper treatment and care.”

To ensure transparency and security, the court also ordered the Department of State Services to monitor, record, and seal all medical sessions that would be administered to the IPOB leader.

Prior to this ruling, the trial judge dismissed the preliminary objections raised by the DSS.

These objections were in response to the application filed on behalf of Kanu, asserting his right to access medical services even while in detention.

The court upheld Kanu’s right to medical attention and granted the order accordingly.
