Police vow to rescue abducted Zamfara students
The Nigeria Police Force says a search and rescue operation has commenced to reunite two female students who were abducted from a university hostel in Zamfara state with their families and loved ones.
Police disclosed that an armed gang invaded the private hostel in Gusau, the capital and locked up two guards before kidnapping the students.
The incident has raised fears of insecurity in Zamfara which has in the past seen numerous kidnappings for ransom by bandits.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, in a statement, explained that the bandits stormed the students’ rented hostel around 1am on Sunday.
The Commissioner of Police of the state, CP Kolo Yusuf, in a statement, assured the general public, especially families of the victims and the management of the university that efforts were ongoing to rescue the students.
The state Commissioner of Police reassured that his officers had intensified search and rescue operations with a view to rescuing the students within the shortest possible time.
