NDLEA arrests 17 suspects, recovers gun in Ogun drug joint operation

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has conducted a successful operation in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, resulting in the arrest of 17 individuals involved in drug-related activities.

The agency also seized a pistol and recovered 6.2 kilograms of abandoned and seized illicit drugs during the operation.

In a statement released by the Commander of Narcotics, NDLEA Ogun State, Ibiba Odili, it was revealed that the joint operation was carried out in collaboration with operatives from the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army stationed at Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, as well as personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The operation targeted drug joints located in the areas of Obada, Lafenwa, Odo-Eran, and Adigbe in Abeokuta.

During the operation, two young men were apprehended with 2.5 kilograms of cannabis sativa, and a significant seizure of 1.5 kilograms of abandoned cannabis sativa was made.

Odili highlighted that the operation also uncovered a locally-made pistol along with three cartridges, highlighting the dangerous connection between drug trafficking and illicit firearms.

The NDLEA commander emphasized that the cumulative impact of the operation revealed a concerning reality, with a total of three suspects apprehended and fourteen drug users discovered.

The confiscated cannabis sativa weighed a staggering 6.2 kilograms, comprising both abandoned and seized substances.

The collaborative efforts between the NDLEA, the Nigerian Army, and the NSCDC demonstrated a strong commitment to dismantling drug networks and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities in Ogun State.

Investigations are currently underway to identify the masterminds behind the illicit drug operations.
