Lagos Assembly re-elects Obasa as Speaker

In a unanimous decision, Mr Mudashiru Obasa has been re-elected by the 39 lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly to serve as the Speaker for the state’s 10th Assembly.

According to a report, Obasa (APC-Agege I) was chosen by his fellow colleagues to lead the Lagos State House of Assembly as the Speaker for an unprecedented third term in a row.

Following a proclamation by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and other high-ranking government officials at the House chamber, Obasa was re-elected by a unanimous vote.

The lawmakers also elected Mr Mojisola Meranda as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

Obasa, being the most experienced member of the House, was nominated by Mr Temitope Adewale, the representative of Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency, and seconded by Mr Sylvester Ogunkelu, the representative of Epe II Constituency.

Mr Noheem Adams, who served as the Deputy Majority Leader in the Ninth Assembly, has also been chosen as the new Majority Leader, while Mr Adedamola Kasunmu, the representative of Ikeja Constituency II, has been elected as the Deputy Majority Leader.

Mr Mojeed Fatai, representing Ibeju Lekki I Constituency, has been appointed as the Chief Whip, and Mr David Setonji, the representative of Badagry II Constituency, has been elected as the Deputy Chief Whip.
