Kwara govt reverses decision on workdays reduction for civil servants

The Kwara State government has rescinded its earlier directive that reduced the workdays for civil servants from five days to three days.

On June 5, 2023, the state government implemented this temporary measure to alleviate the hardships faced by public workers in light of the removal of fuel subsidies.

However, in a letter addressed to the Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state, the Head of Service, Modupe Oluwole, overturned the directive.

The letter, signed by Okedare Adeyinka on behalf of the Head of Service, stated that “this decision was made in anticipation of the resolution to be reached on palliatives between the organised labour and the federal government.

“In light of this, it has become essential to revert to the previous work arrangement, where civil servants observe five working days until a position is agreed upon by the government and the labor union,” stated the Head of Service.

The new directive will come into effect on July 10, 2023.
