Zamfara APC accuses police, govt of unlawful seizure of chairman’s official vehicle

(The Zamfara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lodged an accusation against the state police and government, claiming that they have illegally confiscated the official vehicle belonging to the state APC chairman.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris, it was asserted that this unfortunate incident took place in Gusau, the state capital, where the police intercepted the vehicle bearing Zamfara plate number GUS 51 AH, without possessing a warrant.

Upon raising the alarm, the APC driver discovered that the policemen involved were stationed at the government house, despite initially identifying themselves as ordinary officers.

It was later revealed that “they had been instructed by the state’s commissioner of police to recover the vehicle and transport it to the police headquarters in Gusau.”

“They, however, deviated from this course of action, coercing the driver to alter his route and taking the vehicle to the government house instead.”

The driver was subsequently unlawfully detained at the government house for several hours without any explanation until he was eventually released, the statement unveiled.

The APC perceives this incident as yet another joint effort by the police and the state government to intimidate the party and its members, particularly targeting the chairman, who appears to be the victim of this regrettable event.

The party has notified the relevant security agencies of their concerns, emphasising that the life of the Zamfara APC chairman is in jeopardy due to the monitoring of his and his family’s movements.

They have also asserted that “if any harm befalls him, the Zamfara state government and the police will be held accountable for their actions.”
