Breaking: Reps confirm service chiefs

The appointment of the service chiefs recently selected by President Bola Tinubu has been officially confirmed by the House of Representatives.

The confirmation came after the House’s adhoc committee thoroughly screened the nominees and subsequently adopted their report.

The confirmed service chiefs include Major General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja as the Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla as the Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice-Marshal Hassan Abubakar as the Chief of Air Staff.

Following the Senate’s earlier confirmation of the military chiefs, the House of Representatives began their own screening process on Monday.

The screening committee, chaired by Julius Ihonvbere, the Majority Leader of the House, oversaw the proceedings.

Babajimi Benson, the Chairman of the House’s Adhoc Committee, emphasized the importance of the Armed Forces adhering to the provisions of the Appropriation Act.

He also urged the service chiefs “to collaborate closely and share intelligence effectively.”

Benson further stated that “the National Assembly would review the performance of the confirmed service chiefs during their tenure.”

President Bola Tinubu appointed the new service chiefs on June 19, 2023, exactly three weeks after his inauguration.
